301 Redirect SEO

by

It’s not always that easy to manage a clients portfolio of sites. Especially if there are many people chopping and changing the collection of sites at the same time. I’m wondering just how much “Google Juice” is lost through temporary redirects or simply not directing old site pages to the new site ?

Keep a watchful eye on your  Http Status codes.

It seems you’re referring to link sponges:

Deleting comments you don’t like? Nice one.
I’ll add something to contribute to your rankings then.

Yes Dan, 301 redirects are very important and should be carefully maintained and kept track of. As a matter of fact, I’m currently in the proces of documenting every url on our website which are being generated by various CMSs so we can 301 redirect each and every one of them to new pages, generated by our shiny new CMS.

301 redirects rock for SEO and every SEO should 301 redirect!

Hope that helped and won’t get deleted.

Very time consuming, but definately worth it in the end!

I’ve just wrote an article about this. My boss thought I was wasting time doing this, but after reading my article and doing a bit of Googling it seems I wasn’t wasting time at all :)

    Hi,

I’ve an SEO question for you.

    I’ve two domains.
    http://www.lenvica.com
    http://www.lenvica.in

Which of the following is better in terms of SEO.
    1. One of the domains redirected to the other with a ’301 redirect’
    2. Both domains as separate websites(with similar content) with both pointing to each other.

For now, both of these domains have PR3.

    Thanks,
    Brijesh.

Do you think is better to redirect old pages (php) to new (extensionless) with htaccess or with a script within the old pages?thanks
