11 Reasons Why You Don’t Need SEO [HT: Powazek]

by

OK, OK. Powazek is right. You don’t need SEO. Here’s why.

  1. All websites are built properly, with static URLs, good site architecture and usability at the forefront of their design in the first place.
  2. All web designers know how Google finds its way around a site and why some pages will carry more weight than others
  3. All copywriters instinctively understand the balance between the client’s product and the kind of things people type into Google
  4. Most people have blogs or belong to a forum relevant to a market and will link to sites they find interesting just to spread the word about a good company they’ve used
  5. No-one will ever try to bring your website down
  6. Best practice never changes, so if you are ranking today you always will
  7. All site owners look at their Analytics to understand how and why visitors are finding the site and what they do when they get there
  8. Web developers never use workarounds to achieve an effect that totally screw Google’s spiders or trip a ranking penalty
  9. Google doesn’t use backlinks, domain trust and anchor text as factors in its results
  10. No-one else is doing SEO so you’ll rank naturally if you’re a good boy
  11. There are fairies at the bottom of the garden

I saw the post flying around from Mr Powazak. I wonder what 17 word phrase he has been targetting?? :) It did amuse me that he summarised some half decent on-site SEO whilst having a rant about SEO!

I for one found Mr. Powazek’s point of view insightful – a remarkable insight into the world of people who can have experience in the web and marketing fields and still have no idea what they are talking about.

I was surprised not only by his ill-advised angle, but mostly by the long list of aye-sayers crowding the comment ranks on his article. Is it possible that smart and educated people have such a hard time understanding something (online marketing) that they themselves call simple?

I’m seeing a troubling world trend. It seems that we as a culture are developing a nag for wrongfully oversimplifying otherwise coherent ideas for the sake of ignorance, and then exposing the fabricated oversimplification for others to cheer it on… and they will cheer. A 3-minute thought process has more pop-culture weight than years of research, as long as such thought is expressed with passionate anger and a dose of hate.

What ever happened with knowing a thing or two before opening our mouths?

On the other hand, I read Michael Martinez suggest on another post that the problem may very well be us. Next time a big-mouthed blogger offers the cheapest of $0.02, we should just ignore it, or we run the risk of encouraging the cheer.

    Guys, I don’t think he’s actually being serious…

Read the last 2 points, then re-read the first 9… They are all NOT true. Obvious really.

Ok there where some good points on the post above, but for the most part it make no sence, yes a lot of webmasters, know how to set up a website, and track their traffic & and they have blogs, but that dosent warranty, their sites will show on the organic results.
this post is equivalent of me saying,

11 reasons why you dont need a personal trainer or nutrisionist.
1)we alll know we need to eat properly
    2) we all know we need to exercisice
    lol..

see even though everyone knows this 2 facts above there is alot of people who need the help from a personal trainer or nutrisionist. The same goes for SEO you might know SEO but sombody elses practices might be more efective than your own

Derek’s method seems to imply that everyone who works in development should be a one-man army taking on every single aspect of the site creation process. It’s certainly true that a great web developer should know SEO pretty well, but what’s his role supposed to be in practical terms? Is he a programmer, designer, usbility specialist, marketer, content creator, graphic artist, or all of the above?

Even if he’s a master at all of these things, there aren’t enough hours in the day to cover every one of those tasks effectively. Realistically, the vast majority of people in these roles aren’t a master at any of them, much less all. Anyone who wears all of these hats is going to have quality suffer somewhere.

Our writer produces better work when he’s not burdened with marketing it. Our programmer doesn’t have the time or the expertise to do the graphics work. Our graphic artist doesn’t have the experience to come up with new features that are useful and usable. I don’t have the time, patience, knowledge or skill to create something that looks good in Photoshop. Our SEO guy doesn’t know how to program.

I guess I should just fire all of these people (including myself) and hire Superman.

Sorry but this is the worst post I’ve ever seen… If u included at the bottom a line saying “all this isn’t true, keep on building ur SEO” then i would have got it, but really, SEO, meta tags, web optimizing, density and many more things are very , very important my friend.

It seems this post is made to fool ignorants… and make them quit optimizing their web…

Search engine optimisation is vital and most reputable website designers not only recognise this, but will be happy to advise clients about the content of websites to help in this process.

Yes while most of you a correct in the sense that he should have stated that this was a joke, I think he accomplished what he was after…Comments and a buzz. He obviously receives a lot of traffic on here. I think he knows that SEO is extremely important. Personally I would have said that this was my way of mocking people who do not SEO their site.
