I have a snapshot of data of 1 million users and here is the browser data.

1 Million Users Browser Data

You can see that Internet Explorer is by far the most dominate browser out there no surprises :
Browser Data Internet explorer

and I honestly expected more Firefox 3 users out of 1 Million only 7,908 Firefox 3 users!

Internet Explorer 7.0 and Internet Explorer 6.0 are head to head which surprised me a little

Browser Data Firefox

Added : the site is a commercial site and informational for young working professionals, no adsense !

also added in the SEO industry the skew is much different

my blog

But if you take another example of a UK e-commerce site :

Obviously it depends on your niche!

Here are my stats for 7.9 million users over the last 30 days (that’s right, 7.9 million):

    Internet Explorer: 69.85%
    Firefox: 22.05%
    Safari: 5.52%

    IE Only users:
    IE 7.0: 72.72%
    IE 6.0: 27.06%

So you see, take these browser share stories with a grain of salt and check your own. Depending on the tech abilities, or source of your audience, these can vary widely.

In DavidNaylor’s case, the audience may be more corporate and coming from work where using browsers other then IE is prohibited. Mine is more consumer focused.

    Cheers!

I’m really surprised to see that many people still using IE6 when I’ve been using IE8 for 4 months now.

What was the industry? I find in more technical / design sites the FF rate is a lot higher.

Also with SU or Digg traffic the FF users are 90% +

What kind of audience are we looking at? The amount of people still using IE6 is a little scary.

though i did see a well known internet guru try to link up his linux laptop and give an open office proesenation was not the best way to prove the viability of open office or to be said fo rthe av setup at Nottingham uni

    I’ll add some more to the mix (also using GE) – 1.3 million visitors over the past 30 days;

    IE – 83.45
    FF – 12.41
    Safari – 3.57
    Opera – 0.35
    PS3 – 0.03

Very UK focused site (90% UK traffic).

    IE breakdown:

    7.0 – 67.09%
    6.0 – 32.65%

the browser really depends on your niche… If you have a mainstream or people website you’ll more likely get visits with internet explorer, on the other hand a specific blog in the niche of tech will have more readers using firefox…
